The remodel of this 480-square-foot kitchen in a Santa Barbara Riviera home introduces glazed doors and windows along the west wall, bringing in an abundance of natural light to a previously dark space. The design also reconfigures the floorplan to expand the kitchen into what was an awkward and underused room adjacent to it. New interior openings create views from the kitchen to the other areas of the house, including to the dining room and landscape beyond, and establishes the stairway as a central element around which other interior spaces revolve. Anchoring the kitchen is a finely crafted, furniture quality 12-foot long walnut island designed to match the client's existing custom dining table.
