SANTA BARBARA GUEST HOUSE
Santa Barbara, CA
840 SF
When asked to design a guest house that could host visits from extended family, TGA took the opportunity to transform the client’s overgrown and sloping property into a residential compound anchored by a central outdoor gathering space. More than just accommodating visitors, the new house transforms the previously overlooked site into an active landscape where the family and their guests can enjoy one another’s company. The L-shaped guest house sits at the corner of the site, framing an outdoor entertaining area that features a swimming pool, hot tub, dining area, fireplace, horseshoe pit, and children’s playspace.
CREATING A COHESIVE FAMILY COMPOUND
Conceived as a series of outdoor rooms, the outdoor entertaining area acts as a gathering place that links the guest house with the main house further up the slope.
